SOPs can help businesses create easily repeatable processes to guarantee consistent quality while producing its goods and services.
SOP stands for Standard Operating Procedure. It is a set of written instructions that describes the step-by-step process that employees should follow. SOPs should be a routine for everyone, like brushing one's teeth.
"How many employees work at your company?" - asks the consultant. After a pause, the director looks around and says, "I am pretty sure - half of them."
Without SOPs, operations stop when one or two employees are out.
We are in California, where anybody for any reason could sue you. If your operations aren't done properly, you could lose everything you've built.
On a brighter note, it's never too late to implement SOPs. They not only protect your business, but lead your business to success. If at any moment you decide to go for an IPO or sell your business, it is possible only if your business does not equal you. If it remove you from your business, will it still exist? Do you need SOPs?
